Thinking Critically, Learning Globally: CUPL Students Take Part in Enriching Online Summer Schools!
From 30 June to 18 July 2025, students from the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) took part in two vibrant online summer schools, designed to sharpen their academic skills and broaden their cultural horizons.
Hosted jointly by the Confucius Institute at Bangor University and the Office of Confucius Institutes at CUPL, the programmes offered an exciting mix of critical thinking, academic English, and British cultural insight. Led by Anthony Brooks from Bangor University, the sessions were lively, interactive, and packed with opportunities for students to connect, collaborate and reflect.
The Critical Thinking course encouraged students to think more deeply and analytically. They learned how to build stronger arguments, write with greater clarity, and take part in structured debates with growing confidence.
Meanwhile, the British Culture and Academic Skills programme offered a window into life and learning in the UK. Students explored key elements of British society, from traditions and everyday customs to contemporary issues, while also developing essential study skills like referencing, teamwork, and academic communication.
Throughout both courses, students engaged in small group discussions, practical tasks, and reflective projects – all delivered in a supportive and stimulating online environment.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many described the courses as "inspiring," "enjoyable," and "eye-opening." Several noted that their confidence in using English had significantly improved, and many left feeling newly motivated for their academic journey ahead.
‘These summer schools are a fantastic example of what our partnership with CUPL can achieve’, said Dr Lina Davitt. ‘Together we are empowering students to stretch their ambitions, enrich their academic skills and embrace a truly global outlook through inspiring, collaborative learning adventures.’
