Course Overview: This beginner-level Mandarin course is designed to empower learners with essential conversational skills and introduce them to basic Chinese characters. The curriculum covers a diverse range of topics, including greetings, numbers, introductions, nationalities, professions, daily and work routines, preferences, basic food and beverage ordering, family, weather, seasons, shopping, transportation, and more. Through dedicated instruction, emphasis is placed on developing speaking and listening proficiency alongside the recognition of fundamental Chinese characters. By course completion, participants will possess the tools needed to communicate effectively in Mandarin across various real-life scenarios.
Anticipated Outcomes: Upon finishing the course, students are expected to have the proficiency to confidently approach the HSK 1 Exam. To maintain pace with the curriculum, we strongly recommend allocating a minimum of 2 hours per week for independent study. Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, students should familiarise themselves with 178 Chinese characters. Build a vocabulary of 150 Chinese words applicable in everyday contexts.

Course Description: This ‘post beginners’ course emphasises the advancement of speaking and listening skills in Mandarin. Under the guidance of our tutor, students will also gain proficiency in writing and recognising basic Chinese characters. The comprehensive curriculum covers various practical topics, including seeking assistance, discussing weather and climate, addressing health concerns and visiting a doctor, handling finances and pricing, describing daily activities, exploring colours, sports, and exercise, as well as engaging in shopping activities.
Upon completing this course, students are expected to possess the necessary competence to confidently attempt the HSK 2 Exam. To ensure effective progress throughout the course, we recommend dedicating a minimum of 3 hours to independent study each week. This commitment to independent learning will bolster students' language proficiency and enable them to excel in their language journey.
Learning outcomes: Students are expected to familiarise themselves with 349 characters and establish a vocabulary of 300 Chinese words used in everyday contexts.
