About This Course
This is a part-time, level 7 short course delivered on our Bangor campus, with some days being online (blended learning method).
This course provides learners with an opportunity to identify, develop and implement an improvement in practice, where they can reflect on the process and outcomes. For any learners unable to deliver a project in practice, you will consider how you will implement your project once you are able to do so.
This short course is assessed through your contribution to discussion boards, that will explore a range of topics. You will also submit a written assignment reflecting on the best approach to delivering improvements in practice.
Who is this course for?
This short course is suitable for people working or with experience of working in health and care related settings e.g. healthcare professionals, including, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapist, radiography, and allied health professionals. This course will be of interest to professionals who have responsibility for patient care, leadership, quality & safety.

The overall aim of this short course is to support the learner’s personal and professional development. The short course will achieve this by:
- Being problem-based, focusing on work-based problems in patient care or management issues.
- Enabling learners to take a large measure of responsibility for ensuring that they learn from their workplace activities.
- Emphasising teamwork, addressing situations which require effective co-operation and negotiation between people with differing roles and expertise.
- Minimising the gap between theory and practice
How long does this course take to complete?
This short course is usually delivered during semester 1 of the academic year, and includes:  
- 3 half days of face-to face lectures
- 4 x one hour online student led tutor facilitated group sessions (over 2 weeks).
- Self directed study
Assessments on this short course will include:   
- Contribution of 1,000 words to the discussion forums (within 11 weeks of the module start date).
- Essay (3,000 words). Submitted within 31 weeks of the course start date.

What will you study on this course?
The overall aim of this short course is to support the learner’s personal and professional development. The short course will achieve this by:
- Being problem-based, focusing on work-based problems in patient care or management issues.

What will attendees get out of the course?
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Critically assess the rationale, the methods used and any consequences of the work-based learning activity
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the potential or actual problems that may or have inhibited their work-based learning activity and identify possible realistic strategies for overcoming these
- Develop leadership skills and demonstrate a systematic understanding of the importance of team work and communication skills required for the implementation of the work-based learning activity;
- Drawing on current practice/policy and evidence, demonstrate the deployment of the necessary advanced skills required to achieve the implementation of their work-based learning project or their part of the work-based learning activity to improve patient/client care

Entry Requirements
Applicants will require an undergraduate BSc degree at 2:2 or higher from a recognised Higher Education Institution. 
Health or care-related experience is beneficial for this short course.

Step 2 - Application Tabs (Personal, Info, Contact)
After creating an account, you will see a homepage with several tabs:

You need to complete all sections before submitting your application.
When a section is complete, a ‘tick’ symbol will appear below it
- Click on ‘Non-graduating applications / Stand alone Modules’, then select ‘Non-graduating Postgraduate Taught’.
- In the next section, select Non-Graduating Taught Modules in Health(NGGT/HEALTH) Click Save and Continue.
- On the next page, the default for the first question is Full Time. You need to change this to ‘Part time’:
- You now need to input the module code. Work Based Learning: the code is NHS:4226. This section must be completed for your application to be processed.
- You also need to state the start date. Please make your selection, then click ‘Save and Continue’.
- IMPORTANT: You do not need to write a personal statement to apply for this course. Instead, please upload the document including employment, experience and education information that you have created prior to starting the application that contains the name of your current employer, the number of years of experience you have, and your highest qualification to date. Click Save and continue.
You only need to enter the details of your highest qualification to date, e.g. if you have a postgraduate qualification, please only only include this.
You will be asked for evidence of the qualification. Please either upload a copy of your qualification if it's easily accessible, or upload the Word document again (that you prepared earlier).
